At Vagaro, our recruitment team focuses on a single objective: Assisting you in discovering and developing a career that brings you joy. We understand that the application process can feel daunting, but rest assured, we are here to equip you for success. Regardless of whether you choose to join our team or not, our aim is to foster a candidate experience that is inclusive and supportive.

Resumes Don't Tell the Whole Story

A flawless resume is nonexistent. That's precisely why we don't insist on college degrees for many of our positions, and we embrace career gaps or transitions. We take strategic measures to ensure our hiring process is holistic and inclusive for every candidate who comes into contact with us. Depending on the role you apply to, our team may conduct portfolio reviews, assess skills through presentations and assessments, or hold onsite interviews. Our objective is not only to evaluate candidates based on the "must-haves" in a job description, but also to assess their potential contributions to a more diverse and inclusive team. This evaluation goes beyond demographics; our recruiters actively seek to identify the skills and attributes that a candidate can cultivate or enhance while growing with us.

Recruiter, Tanner Bredal, explains why this method is important to her:

You really can only see someone’s job responsibilities from a resume. There is no way to assess their interpersonal skills and qualities until you jump on a call. Asking behavioral questions and asking for specific examples of work is a great way to assess if a candidate is suitable for a role.

Your initial chance to showcase your skills occurs during the phone screen, a pivotal step in our hiring process. This 20–30-minute introductory conversation with your recruiter serves as a platform for them to learn more about your professional journey and work experience. When crafting your resume, we encourage you to go beyond the surface-level bullet points. Effectively utilizing the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—which can provide a comprehensive and structured framework for your responses.

Take the opportunity to explain both the qualitative & quantitative impacts you had in previous roles. By doing so, you not only fully express your responsibilities, but also highlight the tangible results of your contributions. This approach also sets the stage for a more insightful and engaging conversation, positioning you as a candidate with a well-rounded and impactful professional history.

It’s About a Culture Add, Not a Culture Fit

You may have heard the common phrasing of a “culture fit.” Traditionally, this applies the notion that in order to fit into a company, candidates must fit a predetermined mold, with no opportunity to express authenticity in their role. However, at Vagaro, we have redefined this concept. Our goal is to recruit individuals who will actively contribute to the continuous improvement of our company. We strive to onboard employees who will bring diverse experiences, backgrounds and ideas to the table.

Our Director of Talent Acquisition, Kelly Joseph, expanded on her perspective when she introduced this concept to Vagaro:

A culture add isn't just someone that fits the mold of the team; this is someone who brings a different set of skills or a unique perspective. This person might not have the same working style as others on the team, they may stand out in [how] they accomplish their goals.

By adopting the concept of a “culture add,” we acknowledge that innovation can only exist if we continuously introduce diverse perspectives to our teams. We celebrate differences and recognize the value of fostering an inclusive environment where employees feel empowered to express their authenticity. This approach not only enhances the dynamic nature of our workplace, but also contributes to the continuous improvement and evolution of Vagaro as an organization.

Our Recruiters are Genuinely Invested in Your Success

Although our recruiters are instrumental in getting the best talent, they also want to ensure you can grow with us! Tanner explains that to accomplish this, communication is paramount. She aims to familiarize herself with the background and career goals of a candidate so that she can better advocate for them once they’re onboard and ready to grow.

Jessica Bogetti reinforces this by also maintaining transparency during these conversations. This includes setting realistic timelines and establishing measurable goals that candidates can strive to achieve before progressing to the next stage in their careers. This transparency not only establishes trust, but also empowers candidates to take an active role in their professional development within the company.

At Vagaro, recruitment goes beyond filling open positions. When our recruiters hire a candidate, they invest in their growth. By prioritizing open communication, the candidates' backgrounds & goals, and providing clear pathways for advancement, recruiters like Tanner and Jessica are instrumental in creating a culture of continuous growth at Vagaro. This commitment ensures that joining Vagaro is not just about a job, but about promising fulfilling professional development within a supportive workplace.

So, when you’re interviewing with Vagaro, we urge you to express your career goals and what you hope to achieve with us. Whether you’re interested in exploring a different team at Vagaro in the future, or if you want to expand on a more niche skillset within your own team, communication is a must. Your openness in these conversations is not just welcomed, it's essential to building a career journey that is both fulfilling and tailored to your unique ambitions!

Let’s Give Each Other Feedback!

We are more than happy to provide feedback to candidates after interviews to aid their growth & development, and we actively seek input on how we can enhance our processes through candidate surveys and Glassdoor reviews. Your improvement matters to us, and we value your insights for how we can continually improve our recruitment experience.

We Believe in Compensation Transparency

We work to foster transparency, especially when it comes to compensation. Our commitment to open communication aligns seamlessly with the evolving landscape of employment laws, such as California's recent salary range disclosure law.

In practical terms, this means that when you explore opportunities with us, you will find transparent compensation ranges clearly stated in our job postings. We aim to empower you with the information needed to make informed decisions about your career, ensuring that your expectations align with the compensation offered for a specific role right from the initial stages of your application. This commitment reflects our dedication to creating a fair & supportive hiring process, where authenticity is not just a practice, but a core value we uphold.
