Often times, winning isn’t done alone. Usually, there’s a team of people supporting you on your journey upward. Without them, success might be much harder to achieve. Jason Everett, owner & founder of High Performance Salon Academy, drove this home at Vagaro’s second-annual iconic.23 conference. Here’s a sneak peek at what Jason says are the 10 ways you can recruit talent that sticks for your business. Check out the teaser below!
1. Instagram Recruiting Page
Jason kicks off his first point by explaining how common it is nowadays for potential employees to “stalk” the business they want to work for on social media. Which makes sense because things like culture, people, and the environment of your work—no matter the job—are extremely important to anybody. When searching your business online, it's not enough for these possible teammates to see is the back of someone’s head, or a before-and-after, Everett says. By also providing a glimpse of the internal side of your business, you’re more likely to attract the type of people who you’d gel with! Creating something like an Instagram recruiting page for your business could be done in less than an hour.
2. Build a Staff Avatar
Jason explains the significance of creating an ideal staff “avatar” prior to beginning your employee search. What he means is, think of your ideal candidate. What kind of person do you want to work with? Which qualities do they possess? If you don’t know the answer to that, then it’s going to be much more difficult to find an employee that aligns with you and your business’s core values. When you get crystal clear about who you’re looking for, they have a way of magically showing up in your life, Jason told conference attendees.
3. Create a Staff Sizzle Reel
Create a 30-second to one-minute-long sizzle reel that tells others what your company is all about. If you’re not as experienced with social media, videography, or editing, consider reaching out to a friend or family member who might have experience. There are plenty of online freelance services that Everett also recommends for creating video content. (Hint: Watch his full presentation to see which ones!) At the end of the day, though, it’s best that you at least have something out there, Jason says. “Version one is better than version none.”
4. Smooth Out the Hiring Process
Jason then dives into his fourth hiring tactic and explains how incredibly important it is that you are not taking a wing-it approach to your interviewing and hiring process. It’s more than just feeling out your interviewee’s vibe. Have written-out questions prior to your interviews and watch how much smoother they go.
5. The Value You Provide
If you don’t know where your employees are going, and they don’t know where they’re going, they won’t be staying, Jason says. Your employees need to feel that you can take them farther than if they were to do it on their own, “otherwise, they’ll do it on their own.”
