Vagaro's iconic.22 Conference Session Recap: From Artist to Boss

Kechia Taylor, Sheron Devlin, Dior Davenport & Shalon Burruss: Black Micropigmentation Association

In San Francisco, CA, Vagaro held its first iconic conference from September 25–26. Professionals from the beauty, fitness & wellness industries gathered to hear experts share their knowledge on building a successful enterprise. Four founding members of the Black Micropigmentation Association, sisters Dior Davenport & Shalon Burruss, Kechia Taylor and Sheron Devlin all spoke about how they used Vagaro to grow their respective businesses.

Taylor, CEO & franchisor of Brows & Co. spoke about the importance of consistent branding, especially when expanding a franchise. “Your brand represents you,” she said before elaborating on how costly rebranding can be. Building a brand builds visibility and credibility for businesses of any size. Whether a brand has a single location or becomes a franchise, it’s vital to analyze all data to know where customers come from and how changes impact business. Taylor noted that before Vagaro, she used an expensive booking system that did not allow her to run her business how she wanted. Once she switched to Vagaro, everything was achievable in one app, even franchising.

But building a business does not always mean expanding into a franchise. Sheron Devlin, CEO of the Browtique Philly & Browtique Bala, wanted to grow her business and hire new staff members. “With Vagaro, I’ve been able to do that.” Devlin succinctly identified how Vagaro helps build procedures to increase efficiency. “Simplify, minimize and manage.” Without having to toggle between different apps and systems, it’s easy to automate processes, making running a team seamless. Vagaro also allows its users to tap into new markets and create new growth opportunities.

Davenport and Burruss, founders of Shador Studio and the founders of BMA, highlighted the importance of teaching. Each armed with a master's degree in education, they understand how incorporating education into a salon can be a lucrative move.

“Education is key to creating longevity for your business,” said Burruss.

In the session, Davenport noted how hosting classes creates credibility and elevates your brand, attracting more clients. With Vagaro, Davenport & Burruss can offer online and in-person courses, grow their business and inspire the next generation of microbladers.

The ladies behind the Black Micropigmentation Association were just four of many incredibly iconic speakers at Vagaro’s inaugural conference.
